On October 10, 2018, China's first large-scale commercial solar thermal demonstration power station, CGN Delingha 50MW solar thermal demonstration project, was officially put into operation, which made China one of the few countries in the world that master large-scale solar thermal technology.
At present, there are mainly two ways of solar power generation: photovoltaic and photothermal. Photovoltaic power generation mainly uses solar panels to convert light energy into electricity directly. The solar thermal power generation is to convert the solar energy into heat energy by absorbing the sunlight, and then convert the heat energy into electric energy through the generator set. Compared with photovoltaic power generation, solar thermal power generation is closer to the power generation mode of common thermal power plants, with the characteristics of continuous and stable output, which can make up for the short board of photovoltaic power generation.

Build a "super project" on the Gobi Desert
Delingha solar thermal demonstration project is located in the Gobi desert of Delingha City, Haixi Mongolian and Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Qinghai Province. It covers an area of 2.46 square kilometers, equivalent to the area of more than 360 standard football fields. It adopts groove type heat transfer oil heat collection technology route, which is composed of four parts: Sun Island, heat transfer and steam generation system, heat storage island and power generation island.
It is reported that the solar Island collector of Delingha project is composed of 250000 pieces of 620000 square meters of reflectors, 110000 meters of vacuum heat collecting tubes, tracking and driving devices, etc. the scene is magnificent and magnificent. Like sunflowers, they can track the rotation of the sun and collect heat continuously.

The molten salt storage tank standing on the heat storage Island, with a diameter of 42 meters, is the largest molten salt heat storage tank in Asia. Delingha project adopts trough type heat transfer oil solar thermal power generation technology, equipped with a set of low-cost, large capacity, pollution-free energy storage system. When the light is insufficient, the stored heat can continue to generate electricity, realizing 24-hour continuous and stable power generation, which greatly improves the stability of the regional power grid.
Compared with thermal power plants of the same scale, this power station can save 60000 tons of standard coal and 100000 tons of carbon dioxide emission, which is equivalent to 4200 mu of afforestation.

Creating a global precedent for oil injection in low temperature environment
Solar thermal power generation is a clean and environmental protection energy. Compared with photovoltaic power generation, it has the characteristics of continuous and stable output. It can make up for the shortcomings of photovoltaic power generation. It is an emerging energy application technology with great potential to become the basic load power supply. China started late in this field, and solar thermal power generation is still a sunrise industry.
