On the morning of June 28, the activity of "comprehensively launching the airport connecting line project of Shanghai rail transit city line and promoting the integrated development of comprehensive transportation in Yangtze River Delta" was held. At the event, Li Qiang, Secretary of the municipal Party committee, announced the commencement of the project, and Ying Yong, deputy secretary of the municipal Party committee and mayor, made a speech. The airport connecting line is an important East-West fast track in Shanghai rail transit network, and it is also one of the first batch of 11 demonstration railway lines in China determined by the national development and Reform Commission. The main line of the line is 68.6 km long, starting from Hongqiao hub station, passing through the outer ring line of Shanghai Hangzhou railway, Qibao, Huajing, Sanlin, Zhangjiang, Disneyland, Pudong International Airport and other important areas, and finally reaches Shanghai East Railway Station, with 9 stations along the line. The project will adopt the national railway standard, the design speed target value is 160 km / h, and the laying mode of combination of elevated, ground and underground, mainly underground.

The fourth Railway Research Institute and the General Institute jointly undertake the general contracting task of survey and design of the project. The General Institute not only undertakes the overall design of some main works, but also takes advantage of the comprehensive municipal and regional advantages, undertakes the survey of the whole line, the relevant municipal supporting design and coordination work along the line, which lays a solid foundation for the stability of the main project scheme and the construction of the project on schedule, and comprehensively improves the comprehensive function and service level of the project.

The project is planned to be completed and put into operation in 2024, when the transfer operation time between Hongqiao and Pudong is expected to be within 40 minutes.
